Oh How Things Change

It is funny how things change so quickly when you have a six-week old. Until this week, Coby has not been a real fan of his swing. In fact, he would cry every time we put him it. Quite the opposite was his feelings about the bouncy seat- he loved it! He took most naps in the bouncy seat and relaxed while we did things such a laundry, dinner, etc. in the bouncy seat. Then this past weekend, he started to cry when I would put him in the bouncy seat. There was no more falling asleep peacefully in the bouncy seat, rather it was lots of tears. So, I decided to give the swing another try, and what do you know- he loves it! He now has a new nap and relax location when we are at home. Who knew such a little person could have such strong preferences on where he hangs out :)

Our Growth Report

Coby had his one month appointment this past Wednesday with the pediatrician. We were fully expecting to hear that he had already topped eleven pounds and in the 80+ percentile for weight. We were quite surprised to find out he was slightly below average (in the 48th percentile) for weight at only 10lb.1.5oz. (see pic above). This means he is growing right on track and doing just perfect! As for the other measurements: not surprisingly as Alain and I are both average or below average for height, Coby measured in at 21.5 inches which is in the 35th percentile. Finally, his head circumference was in the 48th percentile as well. All in all, Coby's growth is moving along just perfectly! We were very excited! In addition to checking all of his growth marks, Coby received his second dose of vaccinations- he was so brave (I was not~ Alain had to hold him while I stood back). He survived though~ in fact, he only cried for about 2 seconds. As you can see, he continues to grow and change every day. Next doctor's appointment will be at the end of May~ we'll see where he is then!

Coby is One Month!

Last Thursday, Coby turned one month. It is so hard for us to believe as the time has gone by so fast. I think about all the things that I haven't done in a whole month: teach (at school that is), cook (maybe once or twice~ thanks to all who have taken care of us), sleep a whole night, gone on a date with just Alain (hopefully soon though), or taken a long shower (I am nervous the whole time that something will happen to Coby). It has been quite a month! We have learned so much about ourselves and one another. If you want to learn a huge lesson in selflessness, have a baby~ they show you just how selfish you truly are~ and then they break you of it. God is so good to teach us this lesson in such a sweet and tender way! We couldn't love Coby any more than we already do! We think he is just perfect!

In honor of his first month, Jess and I had a photo shoot here at the house for Coby yesterday. I wanted to dress him in the same outfit he wore home from the hospital so we could compare and see just how much he has grown. Coby did not disappoint~ he was full of smiles and other fun faces for the entire photo shoot (and is pretty much anytime Auntie Jessie is around). Here are a few of the pics we took! Enjoy:

This is my absolute favorite! He loves to fist his hands- he is so strong!

I couldn't resist his cuteness! I could kiss his face all day long!

He has serious faces as well~ still so cute though!

Okay, this next one is not from the "photo shoot," but I couldn't resist posting it for y'all. This was Coby's response to finishing nursing- you might think he is asleep, but this was literally minutes before all the smiley pics above- he is just demonstrating what hard work nursing is! I have to love it!

A few more Easter Pics

Jess took several pics of us (mainly Coby) on Easter, and I have borrowed her camera to post some of those pics. I think you might agree that they turned out quite well. Hope you enjoy!

Jess had fun trying to position Coby for special "Easter" shots--the Easter basket pics turned out so cute!

Gabe was so excited when he realized his shirt matched perfectly with Coby's overalls. They were two peas in a pod. He gladly held Coby for quite some time on Easter! He is quite the caretaker of Coby when we are around. (Funny side story: on Saturday, the Johnson/Aguilar crew spent the evening out at Poyner Place having dinner/ice cream out by the lake and listening to the live music. It was a blast! The kids danced and played, and the weather was just perfect! Anyhow, towards the end of the evening, I had to nurse Coby. Gabe came up and asked me what I was doing~ I do look a little strange with a big nursing cover on~ I told him I was feeding Coby. His response to this was "and how exactly do you do that?" I had to be quite creative on the spot explaining to a six year old about how a mommy nurses her baby~ it was so cute and funny).

Growing and Changing Every Day

We are so excited for this upcoming week- Coby's one month appointment at the pediatrician. We have made practice of guess-timating Coby's weight by weighing him with one of us on the adult scale. We don't feel this is too accurate since three weeks in a row he weighed in at 9.5 lbs. We know he grew during these weeks as he is filling out his clothing more and more each week. So, yesterday he weighed in at 11 lbs. (all of his weights include clothing and a diaper). This seemed a little closer to reality, but we will have to wait and see~ coming up on Wednesday! I am amazed at the difference though between the picture above (from yesterday 4/17) and the picture heading the blog (from when Coby was 2 days old 3/18)~ doesn't he look so completely different? We think it is pretty amazing!

Daddy's Day Off

Yesterday, Alain was able to come home before eleven and spend the rest of the day with Coby and I (unfortunately, this also means he is travelling on Sunday and not with us- fair enough trade though). It was also a beautiful day outside in the low 70s and lots of sun. We took advantage of this and spent some time out in the beautiful weather~ Alain played some disc golf while Coby and I followed along and enjoyed the walk and the sun. Coby, on the other hand, did not so enjoy the sun; even while sleeping in the baby bjorn, he would get agitated every time the sun got in his face. We fixed that problem though- with Daddy's hat. Today, we will have to get out and find Coby a hat to wear out in the sun to protect him!

Just hanging with Mom

After two very busy days of visitors, Coby and I spent the day today just hanging out. I put him in his relaxed, comfy, UNC gear and after breakfast with my Grandma and Grandpa, we spent most of the day relaxing (and had a spontaneous lunch with Auntie Jessie). It is nice to know we have a couple of weeks without visitors. While we absolutely love having people visit, all three of us are starting to get a little bit tired.
Coby has become very smiley in the past few days. His smile melts me (and everyone else too)! Yesterday, my grandparents stopped by for a one-night visit on their way back to Ohio for the warmer months; grandma found it pure joy to make Coby smile and laugh~ and Coby must really love the sound of great-grandmas voice as he was extra-smiley for her!
Monday, Coby took his first trip to the museum with his McWherter cousins from Fayetteville. This was after a chilly lunch in the park. It was so much fun to hang out together. Coby literally slept the entire time (including a significant amount of time in Miss Glenna's arms). He was great the whole time!
The rest of the week is supposed to be a little nicer outside than it has been the past few days! We are looking forward to a big walk tomorrow and extra Daddy time on Friday and Saturday!

Had fun with Lola Aireen!

This past week, Alain's mom came to spend time bonding with Coby. They spent lots of time together doing everything from napping together to Lola helping Alain give Coby a bath. We had a great time!

Happy Easter!

Today was a beautiful day. We had such a wonderful Easter celebrating life! We took Coby to church for his first church service (he slept peacefully through the entire service). After church, we headed to the Johnson's to celebrate Easter with the family over a yummy lunch. It was so much fun! The kids were so excited to search for Easter eggs after lunch, and Gabe was thrilled (as usual) to get to hold Coby. All in all it was a super fun Easter Sunday. We just love Coby and getting to spend our days together as a family.

Both Grandmas will Claim this Prince Charming!

Coby is finally growing into some of his 0-3month clothes (a good thing since the newborn stuff didn't ever really fit him). He still is cuter than cute!

There is a little bit of Mommy in there after all...

The past few days, I have finally discovered what part of Coby came from his mommy- his morning wake up time :) Although Coby may look just like his daddy, the past few days have demonstrated that mommy is in there somewhere--each day, Coby and I wake up around 5 am and from there, neither Coby nor Mommy return to sleep for at least a couple of hours. Grandma has even noticed her morning wake up calls have returned despite the fact Mommy has not yet returned to work! So, Coby does have some of mommy in there after all!

Happy Times with Daddy

Daddy and Coby spend lots of time together in the evenings. Usually, when dad comes home, mom gets a little bit of a break while dad plays with Coby with undivided attention. They are so cute together! Coby got 2 super cute new outfits this week from Gymboree- mom found the super good deals ($4.79 for one outfit and $8.99 for the other)!

Coby is 3 weeks old! More new faces!

This week, Coby hit the three week mark. Everyday he changes and grows! We can hardly believe he is the same boy that was born a few weeks back- he looks so different. It has been a busy several days for Coby as he has met some of his extended family! This week, we are on our third houseguest since Coby's birth- Lola Aireen (Alain's mom). Over the weekend, Aunt Katie came to visit. All in all, it has been lots of fun!
